THE PERFECT VALENTINE -
A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
Take a trip down memory lane of Hollywood's greatest movie themes, from epics to the Golden Age of the Musical, to modern favorites.
Celebrate Valentine's Day as David Wroe leads Westfield Symphony Orchestra on a trip down memory lane to present Hollywood's greatest movie themes from epics, to the Golden Age of the musical, to modern favorites.
"Great movies would not be great without great music and this concert will make you to relive the passion, heartbreak, heroism and thrilling, chilling experiences from the best of the very best," commented Wroe.
The program reaches back some seven decades, beginning with the iconic theme from 1939's epic Gone with the Wind, presenting favorites from great silver screen classics of the '40s through the '70s, (Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus, West Side Story, to name but a few) and gliding easily into modern blockbusters such as Jaws, Star Wars, Space Odyssey, Forest Gump and more. Each minute is more rousing and inspiring than the next.
And great movie music will do more than remind you of the film in which it was originally featured. Continued Maestro Wroe: "These haunting melodies not only enhance the visual stimuli - they also capture whole eras, revive deeply embedded emotions and, in the larger sense, demonstrate the art of cinema itself."
So don't be surprised if after the performance you find yourself whistling the "Colonel Bogey March" from The Bridge on the River Kwai or belting out Leonard Bernstein's "Maria" in your shower. Whether you are seeking the outstanding orchestral talent of the Westfield Symphony, looking to indulge your passion for film music, or just love movies, this concert is for you.
